Description
Part I of Treatment of Substance Abuse covers the broad field of addiction and substance use treatment. Through this course, students will learn about the spectrum of drug dependence disorders, modalities for diagnosis and approaches to treatment. Students will explore a range of interpersonal communication strategies that are critical to engaging the client during screenings, intakes and psychosocial assessments. In addition, students will learn how to develop client-centered treatment and discharge plans. Students will also explore evidence-based practices including the Trans-Theoretical Model (TTM), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
