This course examines initiatives in the United States and Canada to include students labeled with intellectual disabilities on college campuses. Colleges and universities play a critical role in opening career and educational opportunities for all students to participate as full citizens in society. The in-depth study of this topic will cover the history of college options for students with intellectual disabilities; recent federal, state and provincial legislation, and policies supporting inclusive higher education; role of disability services; campus program supports; faculty and academic coach supports; advocacy and student empowerment; inclusive higher education standards and credentials; and program development and evaluation.
